Objectives and scope of the position

● Leads the development and implementation of Patient Partnership research and development strategies and tactics to plan, model and support implementation patient perspective integration into clinical trials through partnership with respective patient communities

● The PPCTD is responsible for and implements the inclusion of the patient perspective in research priority setting, research design and planning, and research conduct in alignment with Patient Partnership TA Strategic and tactical plans, and in collaboration with PDG, PCOR, and other related functions

● PPCTD will partner with DA and other relevant teams in PD to ensure integration of patient perspective across the entire trial (protocol, recruitment, retention, communication) in alignment with the overall Patient Partnership strategy, and in collaboration with PDG , PCOR, and other related functions

● PPCTD will collect and promote the application of best practices and lessons learned across the whole R&D process

● PPCTD will align and work closely with disease area Patient Partnership Director (PPD) who is the strategic lead on patient engagement and the primary global relationship manager for associated patient communities

Cross-functional collaboration and external  focus

●   Acts as a patient partnership  representative of the patient perspective  in PD within the therapeutic area, with the overarching guidance of the  Patient Partnership Director (PPD) who is part  of DWG/GPT/LCT

●   Connects with Patient Community regarding clinical trials in close collaboration with PPD


●   Excellent communication skills, able to persuasively convey ideas into actionable plans

●   Leadership presence and confidence


●   Is responsible for acting in line with legal, regulatory and company standards and codes of practice (such as Roche Code of Conduct and any other Roche directives and guidelines)

●   Completes all required training modules as a priority.

●   All internal and external candidates are expected to demonstrate Roche Values and Roche Competencies

Decision making authority

●   Ability to provide input to and implementing vision and strategy for PP PD

●   Ability to build strong relationships and collaborates effectively with other functions

●   Cultivates broad network of relationships across Roche, with affiliates and external partners

●   Budget governance on projects and tools for providing patient perspective in clinical development, with oversight of the GPPD

●   Business approver of cross functional patient related activities requiring approval

Personal Profile

Professional and Technical Requirements:

●   University level degree is required (ideally scientific or clinical), Master Degree or PhD in a scientific discipline is preferred


●   Deep expertise and understanding of the drug development process including recruitment and retention strategies related to patient engagement and ability to translate scientific concepts to patient/lay audiences. 2-5 years in implementing patient perspective into R&D

●   At least 3 years of experience in working with external patient communities (PAGs, Patient experts etc)

●   At least 5 years of professional experience within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry

●   Track record of leading and driving business process transformation and organizational culture change


●   Relevant knowledge of the disease

●   Relevant knowledge of the drug development process, regulatory requirements and trends for drug approval, clinical trials and external/ internal patient communication

●   Relevant knowledge of the commercialization processes in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology or related industry

●   Relevant knowledge of international/global patient communities

●   Has appropriate knowledge of agile methodologies (e.g. scrum, design thinking, lean etc.) and has the capability of applying them depending on the context and need to generate impact
