How will you make an impact?

We are seeking an Intellectual Property Coordinator for its mass spectrometry business. In this position, you will work with the research & development (R&D) and intellectual property (IP) teams to identify and protect new inventions, to assess and mitigate patent infringement risks, and to address other intellectual property issues that arise during the research and product development cycles. This role will report directly to the Director, Research and Development.

What will you do?

Principal activities and tasks for the Intellectual Property Coordinator position include the following:

·Managing the freedom-to-operate (FTO) process in connection with new product development, including conducting or overseeing patent searches, screening patents to assess relevance, escalating review to attorneys or agents in the IP Department when appropriate, and documenting results

·Meeting with members of the R&D and engineering teams to identify new inventions and assist in preparation of invention disclosure documents for review by the patent committee

·Serving as liaison between inventors and in-house or outside patent practitioners to answer technical questions, review drafts for accuracy, and provide supplemental disclosure materials when needed

·Conducting and evaluating patent landscape searches for competitive analysis

·Assisting patent practitioners with drafting patent specifications and preparing drawings

·Reviewing technical and marketing publications to avoid disclosure of unprotected IP and minimize patent infringement risk

·Assisting members of the IP Department to assess possible infringement of our patents by other parties

·Providing technical support and input for negotiation of license agreements and other transactional matters

·Training personnel in internal processes and policies for conducting FTO reviews, preparing invention disclosures, and other IP-related activities and best practices

·Leading and organizing periodic IP strategy reviews for management

·Supporting patent to product mapping process and maintaining patent marking website

·Reviewing and approving patent-related invoices, and tracking of spend against budget

How will you get here?

Education

Experience

·Three (3) years of experience working in the field of mass spectrometry, preferably in an R&D capacity within an academic or industry setting; thorough knowledge of adjacent technologies, such as liquid chromatography and sample preparation

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

·Excellent written and verbal communication abilities; good organizational and record-keeping skills

·Experience working with patent and/or scientific literature database search tools

·Ability to concurrently manage multiple projects having competing priorities and deliver results on deadline

Preferred Qualifications

·Previous experience with patents (either as inventor or in support capacity)
