Rosenberg Lab - Junior or Assistant Specialist
The Rosenberg Lab at UCSF studies how microbial pathogens cause disease in humans. We use a combination of structural biology and microbial genetics to investigate the molecular underpinnings of the host-pathogen interface. Our goal is to uncover novel vulnerabilities that will enable faster, cheaper and less toxic treatment of infections.
We are currently seeking a Research Specialist to join a motivated, and highly collaborative team to work on project related to the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV2. The ideal candidate will have specific training in cell culture techniques and an ability to follow complex protocols with expensive reagents. Knowledge of molecular genetics (including genomic editing) and structural biology are a plus but are not required.
Specific Responsibilities Include: • Protein purification (prior experience not required) • Ability to think independently and design research experiments
Requirements: • Specialists appointed at the junior rank must possess (or in process of obtaining) a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) in the biological sciences or at least four years of research experience (e.g., with instrumentation and research equipment, social science research methods, or creative activities). Specialists appointed at the Assistant rank must possess (or in process of obtaining) a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) in the biological sciences or at least five years of experience in the relevant specialization. • Extraordinary attention to detail and ability to follow protocols • Must be highly collaborative, team-oriented, and an effective communicator • Must have experience working with cell culture • Experience with protein purification is a plus but not required • Experience with genomic engineering is a plus but not required • Applicants must possess qualifications by time of hire.
